Text Safety
Text and space guide: how to leave room for the headline
Image tools write badly: deformed letters, made-up words. The professional approach is to generate the image without text and with the space ready, then add the text in an editor.
This layer does exactly that: reserve the headline zone, ensure contrast, respect margins and keep the background clean where it will be needed.
Where the text goes
Decide the zone before generating: top, bottom, one side or centre. The subject will sit on the opposite side and the text will have room without covering anything important.
/••••••••Title area at top
Reserves the top of the frame for placing a title.
/••••••••Title area at bottom
Reserves the bottom of the frame for placing a title.
/••••••••Copy space on the left
Leaves the left side of the frame clear for adding text.
/••••••••Copy space on the right
Leaves the right side of the frame clear for adding text.
/••••••••Copy space in the centre
Leaves the center of the frame clear for adding text.
/••••••••Lower-third information space
Reserves the lower-third space typical of an identification title card.
Contrast and legibility
Text is readable if it contrasts with what's behind it. Ask for dark or light backgrounds where the text will go, and avoid busy backgrounds.
/••••••••High contrast headline area
Creates a high-contrast zone where a headline stays highly legible.
/••••••••Dark area for light text
Creates a dark zone where light-colored text stands out strongly.
/••••••••Light area for dark text
Creates a light zone where dark-colored text stands out strongly.
/••••••••Unbusy background for readability
Keeps the background clean, with no elements competing with text.
/••••••••No visible text
Keeps the image completely free of text.
/••••••••Clean area for small text
Leaves a clean zone where small text stays legible.
Small elements and margins
Prices, dates, buttons, logos and sponsors also need space. And safe margins keep anything important from being cut when printing or cropping for another network.
/••••••••Clear call-to-action zone
Leaves a clear, uncluttered zone for placing a call to action.
/••••••••Space for price tag
Leaves a reserved spot for placing a price.
/••••••••Space for date
Leaves a reserved spot for adding a date.
/••••••••Clear logo safe zone
Leaves a clear zone where a logo stays fully legible.
/••••••••Wide safe margins
Keeps wide, safe margins around the edges of the frame.
/••••••••Print bleed awareness
Prepares the composition with extra margin for print bleed.
Common mistakes
- Putting the text in the prompt and expecting it to come out right.
- Not reserving space and having to put the headline over the subject's face.
- Placing light text on a light, detailed background.
